YOHAN STARTS ON JUNE!

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon is little disappointed with his recent release Ek Deewana Tha, which didn’t perform well in Bollywood box office. He has now started working on his next schedule of Neethaane En Ponvasantham that stars Jiiva and Samantha in lead role. Although the posters of Vijay’s Yohan Adhyayam Ondru was published nearly before 6 months.
However, due to prior commitments of them, the project didn’t take off.

Recent calls on airs are that Gautham Menon will complete the shooting for Neethaane En Ponvasantham by end of May and Vijay with Thuppaki by the same time. Apparently, the shooting of Yohan Adhyayam Ondru will go on floors from June.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the first schedule will be held in India, UK or USA.

VIJAY SINGING FOR THUPPAKI

Ilayathalapathy Dr.Vijay, who has sung over 25 songs, will be lending his voice for a peppy number again. The actor is all set to sing a song for his upcoming Tamil movie 'Thuppaki'. According to reports, Harris Jayaraj, who is composing music for Thuppaki, has asked Vijay to sing the song. The musician believes that the actor's voice for the track is tailor-made and the duo is excited about the soundtrack.
The tune for the song has already been composed and Vijay is expected to record his voice soon. Meanwhile, the actor along with Kajal Aggarwal is busy shooting for the film in Mumbai. The movie directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu.

VIJAY TO START PRODUCTION COMPANY!

Vijay to start home production company “Ghilli Films” .Much was expected when Karthika, daughter of yesteryear glam heroine Radha made her flashy entry with a Jiiva-starrer 'Ko' in K.V. Anand's direction. While the film did wonders to Jiiva's career, Karthika could not a make it big despite the fact that she was critically acclaimed for her performance. Finally there's good news for the actress! Reliable sources say that none other than Ilayathalapathy Dr.Vijay for a film has roped her, which will be produced by his newly formed banner 'Ghilli Films'. Vijay is restricting himself to production and Vikram Prabhu, son of veteran actor Prabhu will play the male lead. Interestingly the Velayudham star has chosen to remake the 1981 blockbuster movie 'Sattam Oru Iruttarai' as his first project. Apparently, the movie was directed by his dad S.A. Chandrashekar and featured Vijayakanth and Poornima in the lead. After SOI's release Vijayakanth became one of the leading stars in Tamil cinema. The remake version, it is said will be directed by debutant Ramesh.

THUPPAKI SHOOT IN MUMBAI

The buzz is that the second schedule of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s AR Murgadoss directed Thuppakki shoot is going to take place in Mumbai from tomorrow.

Thuppakki is a big budget film produced by V Creations Kalaipuli S Dhanu and has Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead. The supporting cast consists of Jai,Jayaram, Vidyut Jamwal and Sathyan.

Harris Jayaraj is the music director and Santosh Sivan the cinematographer.Thotta Tharani has designed the sets and Sreekar Prasad the editor. It is said to be an all out action entertainer in which Vijay plays a Mumbai cop.

VIJAY ALLOTS CALL SHEET FOR SANTOSH SIVAN?

Vijay is playing the lead role in Thuppaki, directed by AR Murugadoss. Wielding the camera for this film is ace cinematographer-cum-director Santosh Sivan. Santosh has not only wielded the camera for several films but has also directed some films including Urumi and Asoka.
Sources say that Vijay is awed by Santosh’s impressive lineup of work and has asked him to create a script for him. It is said that Vijay’s project with Santosh Sivan may commence after he completes Thuppaki and Gautham Menon’s Yohan Adhyayam Ondru.

VIJAY'S TOUGH COP ROLE IN THUPPAKI

Ilayathalapathy Vijay gives evasive replies whenever you ask him about his role in the forth coming high action entertainer Thuppakki directed by A.R. Murugadoss -in fact, the duo have been carefully keeping all details about the film under wraps.
But our sources in Mumbai, where the first schedule of shooting took place for 40 days, con firm that the Velayudham star is essaying an encounter spe cialist in the movie. “Vijay is acting as a high profile cop from Mumbai and most part of the film takes place in the business capital,“ says the unit source. Reportedly, a hilarious scene was shot recently by scene was shot recently by Murugadoss -a typical pen paarkkum padalam (the traditional way of `seeing' a girl by the boy's family for fixing an alliance) scene in which Vijay, straight from work and clad in khaki, comes to see his bride-to-be played by Kajal Agarwal and she serves him sweets and coffee. While Santhosh Sivan cranks the camera, Harris Jayaraj has been roped in for the music. Sources inform that thanks to the ongoing strike in the film industry, Vijay is hitting the gym everyday and run ning those extra miles -to get the perfectly-toned body of a tough cop.

NANBAN SECOND ONLY TO ENDHIRAN

The strong run that Nanban is having in certain circuits even a month after its release has got the distributors raving about the wonders it has performed at the box office. Nanban has shown nothing less than phenomenal performance in the Madurai and Coimbatore belts. The distributors for these areas, Ramesh and Sivakumar, respectively have stated that almost all centres are witnessing repeat audiences and that is sustaining the collections in a big way. The gross collection of Nanban from 4 circuits of Coimbatore is around Rs. 5.5 crores. This is next only to Superstar’s Endhiran that had done a business of Rs. 8.0 crores during its initial month in the same 4 circuits. Yes, a difference of 2.5 crores in a months run in a district between two movies is quite huge. But, one must also take into account the fact that the tickets for Endhiran during the initial week had sold out for Rs. 500 and above while Nanban tickets were in the normal range of Rs 70-100 in both Madurai and Coimbatore. What does this mean? Well, it’s a complex issue of various factors. That a star can command houseful audiences even with tickets selling for Rs.500 is an indication of the crowd pulling power that he has. At the same time, if Nanban has gone on to make nearly 70% of Endhiran’s collection within the same running period, it means that it commanded a lot of repeat audiences, which the distributors say is true. Of course, we should also understand that the lower ticket rates is also a factor in attracting repeat audiences; which is something that Endhiran could not have done with ticket rates hitting the ceiling.

All said and done, the final numbers state one fact; in many circuits the business that Nanban has generated is second only to Endhiran; and it is definitely the highest ever numbers generated by a Vijay starrer; not to forget Jiiva. And, in the midst of Endhiran, Nanban, Rajni and Vijay, we should not forget the one man common to all this- shankar. He has truly emerged as the biggest revenue generating director of the industry.

JAYARAM JOINS THUPPAKI GANG

Jayaram the versatile actor is busy in Malayalam and a couple of his recent films did fare well at the box-office.

But the actor loves to do the occasional Tamil movie, as he is the only Malayalee actor settled in Chennai with his family.

Jayaram spoke to Kuruvi Fans Club: “I was impressed by the character when Murugadoss narrated it to me and agreed to do it. Once the on-going tussle between TFPC and FEFSI is sorted out, I will start shooting for the film”.

So will it be another negative role like what he did in Saroja and Dhaam Dhoom and pat comes the reply with his usual humour: “Do I look like a villain? I can’t reveal the role but it is not the usual bad man role for sure”.

WILL VIJAY'S NANBAN TOUCH THE RS.100 CRORE MARK?

Vijay’s Shankar directed Nanban has been declared a super hit by the trade.

As per trade sources the film has grossed approximately Rs 40 Crore in its first week (Jan 12 to 19). In Tamil Nadu it recorded almost 95 % opening in its first four days, which is extraordinary by any yardstick.

The film opened in nearly 625 screens in Tamil Nadu in its first two days (Jan 12 &13) without any opposition.

Nanban made merry and it helped the film to get the second biggest opening afterEnthiran. By Pongal day, the film became steady at the box-office  and the word-of-mouth started working to its advantage .

Says Asick Meera of Mariyam Pictures who purchased the TK area: “Nanban is running packed houses in 33 release stations and there is no drop so far. AfterEnthiran, Nanban is the only film which is drawing repeat audience and is going steady. The collections are on par with Enthiran first week collections and the film has netted Rs 2.75 Crores in its opening week, which is phenomenal by any yardstick.”
Added Sivakumar of Cosmo Village Pictures, the distributor for Coimbatore & Nilgiri area: “We gave Nanban a very big release by opening in 70 screens and has netted an awesome Rs 5.20 Crore in the first week so far and has been drawing unprecedented crowds especially in small towns. What is remarkable is that the film has done excellent business at single screens as well as multiplexes, a feat which only Enthiran has managed in the recent past”

Nanban is also testimony to the fact that Vijay is one of the biggest stars in Tamil films with an assured opening.  Shankar is the biggest brand in south cinema and the combo with Vijay worked wonders for the film.

Family audiences took advantage of the long weekend to catch the faithful 3 Idiotsremake. Gemini Film Circuit, the producers hit the bull’s eye by releasing the film for Pongal which ensured the family audiences came in droves and the word of mouth promotions by the masses has worked well for the film.

As per Gemini Film Circuit, Nanban is faring well in Tamilnadu, Kerala and overseas and is expected to collect over  Rs100 crores in the long run from theatricals,  audio and television rights (Vijay TV has brought the rights at a new record price).
And now you know, why Ilayathalapathy is all smiles? All Izz Well, that ends well!

ILAYADHALAPATHY ABOUT ACTOR SURYA AND THUPPAKI

Ilayadhalapathy to media on actor Surya and Thuppaki during his recent visit to madurey.
"I won’t be commenting about any political issues and that it’d only be about films. I don’t have any hesitation in starring along side other heroes if I get a script as powerful as Nanban. I believe that the ‘script’ is the actual hero of a film. We (actors) only go by what the script says. I have a good rapport with Suriya. I won’t have any problems in acting with him together. We had already done Friends more than a decade back. If I get a good script, I’d consider starring with him again. At present, though, I’m focusing on Murugadoss’ Thupppaki, I’m sure it’d do well at the box-office."

VIJAY MEETS THALAPATHY ANTHEM BOYS

'Thalapathy Anthem', a video song which is composed by three die hard Vijay fans, Vatsan, Dinesh and Amogh is an ode to the Ilayathalapathy. In fact, their tagline is 'An Anthem For The Commander Of Kollywood'! The video is spreading like wildfire in networking sites, thanks to Vijay's fans.
Apparently pleased with the sweet gesture Vijay called Vatsan. Says a source close to the young talent, "Vijay was thoroughly pleased with the Thalapathy Anthem and felt he should meet the boys and called them and asked them to come meet him at his residence immediately last evening (February 5). He met Vatsan and Dinesh since Amogh couldn't make it, spoke to them about their career and appreciated the anthem".

Vatsan had earlier acted in 'Engaeyum Eppothum' and will be seen as the second lead in 'Mike Set Pandi'.

Vijay was reportedly all praises for the team's next song as well which will be unveiled shortly.

THALAPATHY ANTHEM

VIJAY AT THEATRES SCREENING NANBAN

Vijay’s sudden appearance among his fans at the theatres screening Nanban in Thiruppur and Coimbatore areas had the fans in a frenzy of excitement. The star was spotted at the Usha Theatre in Thiruppur and at the KG Complex, Archana and Central Theatres in Coimbatore.
The star watched the film at the Central Theatre with about 165 elderly and handicapped persons from an institution run by Radha Krishnan. He also donated food and clothes to these people. Further, Vijay donated five laptops to five women.
He also handed over a shield to Radha Krishnan honoring his work and commitment. Vijay fascinated the audiences by singing the songs from Nanban in all the theatres he visited and this made his fans extremely happy.
Speaking on this occasion, Vijay said that there many people without relations but there can be no one without a friend. That is the importance of friendship, said he. Vijay added that he is not the only reason for Nanban’s success as all his co-stars and technicians associated with Nanban should be credited for the film’s success.

GV PRAKASH WANTS 'BAADSHA' FROM VIJAY

GV Prakash Kumar wants two Vijays for one task. "If at all a super hit film has to be remade, my vote will go to Superstar Rajinikanth's Baadsha. Vijay should play the lead role with AL Vijay directing it," says the young music composer.

"Baadsha is one of my all time favourite movies. I still remember each and every scene of the blockbuster. I want it to be remade, with Vijay playing the lead role. The Madarasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal director would be apt to wield the megaphone," he says.

Expressing his wish to compose music for the film, Prakash says, "I am ready to give songs on the lines of Baadsha Paaru..., Styleu Styleu than..., and Thanga Magan Indru... The very idea of remaking Baadsha gives me joy."

The music director, who made a mark last year with some memorable movies and songs, is looking ahead for 2012 with thrill and hope. For, he is expected to tie the knot to his childhood sweetheart Saindhavi later this year.

AYNGARAN INTERNATIONAL ON VELAYUDHAM BLU-RAY

At least 50% of the DPX files are slightly pillarboxed - due to different cameras used on principle photography; thereby giving us a varied aspect ratio. For its theatrical release: the frame size was slightly zoomed in when printed from DI to 35mm. This helped remove the pillarbox. Sadly, this meant that 50% of scenes that did not have pillarbox issue was cropped - causing picture information to be lost. For the blu-ray - we debated on what to do. If we follow the 35mm aspect ratio version of zooming into the picture (thus removing the pillarbox) it will cause film grain to increase in size and could lead to complaints. Zooming would also crop image information on scenes which doesn't have pillarbox issue. So I have advised AP International to encode the picture as the DPX file (with pillarboxing), since this was approved by the director at the time of final post-production. ALL IZZ WELL FOR VIJAY!

Illayathalapathy fans all over Kovai were in for a treat, as the actor made a whirlwind visit to Coimbatore on the back of Nanban’s immense success. At the press meet organised by Cosmo Village Pictures, Vijay was truly in his element.

Casually attired in a T-shirt and jeans, the actor distributed gifts and laptops to underprivileged men and women, spent time with his fan club members, and even joined us for a friendly chat.

“I really don’t know much about the collections and profits that everyone keeps talking about. I only ask people one thing — whether they’re happy once they leave the theatre. I was requested to come to Coimbatore to see the response to Nanban, and I personally yearned for interaction with the audience and press as well. I, myself, had wanted to see a new Vijay in a movie, and I’m happy that it’s worked out,” he smiles.

So, why did it take him so long to embrace a different role? “Well, I couldn’t do it myself; I needed a director to back me with a good script. After Kaavalan, this was one film in which I was offered a different role, thanks to Shankar Sir. This is easily one of my best films,” says Vijay.

On the experience of working with his Nanban co-stars, he quips, “Both Srikanth and Jiiva were my friends before the shooting; now we’ve become even closer! I’d been waiting to work with Sathyaraj Sir for so long and finally got the chance to. He has no fights or chases in the movie, but he’s pulled off a new type of villainous character brilliantly!”

Was he also a trouble-maker during his college days like his character Pari in Nanban? “I was a normal student honestly. Yes, the occasional mischief did happen, just like any other youngster,” he admits. Vijay shares a bit about his next venture, Thuppakki, with director A.R. Murugadoss, “It’s a story set in Mumbai and I just finished a 35-day long shoot there. It’s a movie in an altogether new dimension, and I’m really excited about it.”

Nanban’s message was to inspire youngsters to follow their hearts and take up the careers that they desire, so would he let his son do the same? “Absolutely! My responsibility is to be a good parent and provide Sanjay with a basic education; he can do whatever he wants to after that,” he laughs.

A quick tour of Coimbatore followed, with Vijay visiting theatres like Central, KG Big Cinema and Archana-Darsana, and even watching the movie for a few minutes with the surprised, excited crowd of cheering fans. All izz well, indeed!

The director and Vijay are currently working on Thuppaki. Murugadoss is very pleased with Vijay's work so far and he has promised fans that they are going to love Vijay in this role.
Kajal Agarwal is the heroine of this film. Shooting was proceeding smoothly but has been interrupted because of the strike that is gripping the Tamil film industry because of the conflict between FEFSI and TFPC. Once it ends, the team will get back to their shooting.
